Liverpool VCT Care and Treatment (LVCT) continues to play a lead role in providing HIV services in Kenya, and around Africa by extension. In order to do this, development of human resource and system strengthening of other organizations continues to be a priority for LVCT. The two key divisions involved in this are The Training Division and The Capacity Building Division.
1.) The Training Division, under the services department continues to play a central role in the process of equipping individuals with the understanding, skills and access to information, knowledge and training that enables them to offer HIV and related services effectively. The division has actively supported NASCOP in developing standards and guidelines for HIV counseling and testing (HCT). It trains over 700 health providers annually and has trained over 70% of the country's HTC providers in Kenya, 90% of HIV counsellor supervisors and over 95% of counsellors providing trauma counselling following sexual violence. The division also offers a Diploma Course in HIV Counselling and Testing for Clinical Settings. Click on Training Division on the left for details.
2.) The Capacity Building Division, under the Policy, Research and Performance Department, is charged with the responsibility to support the operations of LVCT's work with sub-partners, mainly (CBOs), faith-based organizations (FBOs), non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and peer-led most-at-risk-populations organizations. This work entails strengthening the systems of the organizations in areas such as governance, administration, human resources management, financial management, organizational management and program management. It also entails support with registration to enable organizations enhance their capacities to engage in HIV and AIDS related policy and programs. This is particularly so when engaging with the Most at risk populations (MARPS). All this is for the purpose of being a catalyst for long lasting positive change in regards to HIV and AIDS among communities in East Africa, while reinforcing the sustainability of the interventions, towards ‘An AIDS Free Society'.
